A living legacy to the past, University Village, sometimes called Little Italy, is home to a ton of history engrained in stone on the streets. Pizza and pasta are supreme in this area but other specialty spots like the Maxwell Street Market have made their mark on this historical neighborhood. The neighborhood shares its name with residential and commercial developments that began in the 90s on the Near West side of Chicago.
Historic landmarks like the Catholic churches of Our Lady of Pompeii and Holy Guardian Angel are signifcant features of this area. The name comes from the development of UIC and the Illinois Medical District which which has increased the student and faculty population in the neighborhood.
